How to Choose The Right Stove For You11th October 2021

Adding an electric, gas, multi-fuel or wood burning stove to your home can be a great addition. It’s said that the longer people sit in front of a roaring fire, the greater the relaxing effect it has on them, easing anxiety with a multisensory, absorptive, and social experience. As the days get chillier and crisp, colourful leaves pile up on the ground; there’s nothing quite as tranquil and comforting as relaxing on your sofa in front of the dancing flames. That said, choosing the right stove isn’t easy as there are lots of different factors to consider, so read on below to discover our top tips when choosing a stove for your home.

Size may matter more than you think

Size is perhaps the most crucial consideration, especially if you’re looking to use the stove regularly and enjoy the tremendous warmth offered. To do so, there is a quick calculation that can help:

Measure your room and divide by 14 (so length x width x height in metres, divided by 14). Divide by 10 if your room is particularly poorly insulated; divide by 25 if your home is a new-build and super-insulated.

Generally, a small log burner will heat from 600 to 1000 square feet, a medium-sized stove will heat from 800 to 2000 square feet, and a large wood burning stove will heat from 800 to 3000 square feet. Therefore, bigger is not always better. It really depends on your room and the heat you require.

Multi-fuel, gas, electric or woodburning?

Wood burning stoves have remained popular, providing a timeless appeal to traditional and modern decors. Fortunately, today, many brands have upped their game in recent years, creating wood burners with very high-efficiency ratings. So, if you like the idea of heating your home the old-fashioned way whilst minimising the amount you spend on heating bills, a traditional log burner is ideal.

Multifuel stoves are the most versatile, tending to be eco-friendlier too, especially when you’re burning smokeless coals and peat briquettes, whilst gas is very convenient and easy to use, requiring minimal cleaning as there is not a great deal of soot and ash build-up. In recent years, electric stoves have also improved with HD flame effects and realistic sounds, giving you the classic look of a logburner, even if you don’t have a chimney. Electric stoves can be a fine addition to a new build, whilst the added advantage is that there’s no need to purchase logs, coal or kindling to burn.

At UK Stoves, we stock the most extensive collection of ‎multi-fuel, gas, woodburning, electric stoves, including ‎DEFRA approved and ‎Ecodesign Ready Stoves for those living in Smoke Controlled Areas.

Traditional or contemporary styling?

As you’ll discover when you browse our collection of stoves, there are endless shapes, sizes and styles to consider. To simplify the process of narrowing down on the right look for your home, it’s best to start by answering the following questions:

“Do you prefer the look of a traditional log burner or the more contemporary, sleeker stove?”

Traditional log burners often feature ornate detailing, framed glass doors and decorative legs. Are you a lover of rustic charm and old-world characteristics? If so, start by exploring traditional designs and see if any models stand out.

Contemporary stoves often combine smooth lines with minimalistic features, large walls, subtle curves, and unique shapes to further complement surroundings. It’s essential to choose a logburner that not only suits your personal tastes but also complements your existing architecture and décor, but we have a comprehensive range of designs available from the world’s leading stove manufacturers.
